Wab 794's Excursion to Pahiatua 2003

On Saturday the 4th of October 2003 the Wab went through the gorge to the Pahiatua group's depot so the passengers could see the work they were doing there.

Wab Leaving Feilding The Wab travelled with the UC to Palmerston North to pick up the carriages. It was driven tender first so we did not need to turn in Palmerston North. This picture shows Wab 794 leaving Feilding not far from the Freezing works.

Manawatu River The previous day it had rained so badly the main road and railway to Wellington were blocked.
Here you can see the amount of water in the Manawatu Gorge.
Wab, UC and Railcar The Wab, UC and the Standard Railcar together. The Wab used the mainline (the carriages were on the loop) to change ends after the Railcar society's shunter tractor had moved the wagon to the other end of the Wab.
Pahiatua Railcar Society's TR Pahiatua Railcar society's TR was used to help shunt the UC onto the other end of the Wab ready for the return jounery to Palmerston North. The Standard Railcar can be seen in the distance.

Tin Hare RM5 Railcar RM5, was used between Wellington and Woodville. Awaiting restoration of the passenger compartment. The engine, transmission and frame have already been restored.
At Palmerston North Station The sun began to show just before we left Pahiatua and when we got to Palmerston North. It was a nice way to finish the excursion.

Car Shunt The sun was setting as Wab 794 did the car shunt before departing for Feilding Steam Rail's depot.
